Talent for Tanzania - On Stage at Home, November 11th, 2012

Christine Huvos has been the chairlady of the On Stage group for three years. This show is her latest concept and a credit to her talent and imagination. Christine previously taught German and French at Zürich International School and has performed her French chansons in some of Zürich’s chicest nightspots. This evening is organised in support of the work of Dr. Baumgartner, Professor Emeritus in Orthopaedics, who runs a clinic, CCBRT, in Dar-es-Salaam, Northern Tanzania. This clinic specializes in artificial limb surgery for amputees (very often children injured by landmines) and all forms of deformity. For instance, there is still a huge incidence of poliomyelitis in the area, leaving many crippled and not able to work. He performs surgery, but above all teaches the local doctors the latest techniques. With the help and support of his Swiss colleagues the necessary material such as prosthetics, et cetera, are bought or donated and collected here and sent over. He carries most of the costs himself, with the help of other doctors, friends and now, hopefully, us. November 10th, 2012.
